Competition Announced for the Rehabilitation Design of Shorapani Historic Railway Station and Former Battery Factory Buildings

The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has announced a competition for the design of the reconstruction of the historic railway station and buildings located on the premises of the former battery factory in Shorapani, as well as the development of a recreational area.

The project aims to ensure the comprehensive development of the site, preserve Shorapani’s historical and industrial heritage, and adapt the buildings for modern public use.

Particular attention will be paid to restoring the buildings’ original appearance. The former depot building is envisaged as an exhibition and educational space showcasing the region’s industrial and railway history.

The project will also provide for the development of a recreational area, including landscaped green spaces, pedestrian and cycling paths, children’s playgrounds, sports facilities, and modern safety systems.

It is noteworthy that the site borders the historical and cultural protection zone of Shorapani Fortress, further enhancing the project’s touristic and public significance.
