Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Revaz Sokhadze, together with Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Mzia Giorgobiani, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth Tamar Makharashvili, Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund Giorgi Shonia, and representatives of local government, visited four public schools in Tbilisi to review ongoing and planned infrastructure projects.

The Minister inspected construction works at Tbilisi Public School No. 11, where the Municipal Development Fund is building a new school designed to accommodate 650 students. The project, valued at more than GEL 14.3 million, is being funded by the Government of Georgia.

Revaz Sokhadze also reviewed construction of an additional academic building at Tbilisi Public School No. 128. The new building, designed for 300 students, will expand the school’s educational infrastructure and provide students with an improved learning environment. The project is valued at more than GEL 9.1 million and is funded by the Government of Georgia.

The Minister and representatives of the relevant agencies also assessed the existing conditions at Tbilisi Public Schools No. 113 and No. 116. Plans are underway to construct new buildings to replace both schools.

Demolition of the old building of Public School No. 113 has already been completed. Market research will be launched next week to prepare for the tender on the design and construction of a new school with a capacity of 200 students. Following the dissolution of the Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency (ESIDA), responsibility for this school project was transferred to the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure.

With regard to Public School No. 116, a decision has been made to replace the existing building with a new, larger school. Preparations for the project brief will begin shortly, followed by market research.

The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure implements public school construction and rehabilitation projects in accordance with the list of priority schools identified by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth. The Ministry of Education determines schools’ infrastructure needs and priorities, while the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, through the Municipal Development Fund, is responsible for implementing the respective projects.
