Statement by the Municipal Development Fund

The Municipal Development Fund (MDF) has immediately launched an investigation on the damage of the façade of the building, incurred as a result of work, carried out by the contractor construction company “Saba Construction” at the cultural heritage site, located at №9 Zviad Gamsakhurdia Str. In Batumi City.
Any interference with cultural heritage site that violates the rules and procedures established by law, is totally unacceptable for MDF.
The initial investigation revealed that the contractor company did not have a permit from the relevant authorized body to carry out the specific work on the building.
The MDF is preparing all necessary material that will be immediately forwarded to the investigative body for a proper legal assessment and respective response regarding a possible violation of the law.
Simultaneously, the Supervisory Unit of the MDF is conducting a detailed review of the current situation at the site. Further action will be taken only in consultation with the relevant authorities, and in full adherence to the requirements and procedures, established by law.
The protection of cultural heritage is an absolute priority for MDF. The MDF will use all legal mechanisms at its disposal to determine the liability of those responsible for the incident and to ensure that further work at the cultural heritage site is executed in full compliance with the law.
