Additional Technical Assessment of Sno Public School Building Underway

The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Infrastructure is conducting an additional, in-depth assessment of the technical condition of the Sno Public School building. The assessment includes geological investigations and the determination of the building’s structural safety category.
The current condition of the school building and the next steps required for the further implementation of the project were once again reviewed on site by Giorgi Shonia, Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund, his Deputy, Kvára Chartolani, representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, experts, art historians, and representatives of the school. The participants inspected the building and, together with specialists, assessed key issues relevant to determining the next course of action.
At this stage, no decision has been made regarding the demolition of the existing Sno Public School building and the construction of a new school. The final decision on whether the existing building will be preserved will be based on the results of the comprehensive expert assessment and the conclusions of relevant specialists. The final technical solution must take into account student safety, the historical significance of the building, and compliance with all applicable quality standards.
Following the abolition of the LEPL Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency, the Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Infrastructure took over several dozen problematic school rehabilitation and construction projects. Their continuation was not possible without a thorough review and assessment.
As part of this process, following the transfer of the project to the Municipal Development Fund, a detailed assessment of the Sno Public School project and the current condition of the building was initiated.
According to the conclusion of the Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau LEPL, the original structural design contained deficiencies. At present, at the request of the Fund, the National Forensics Bureau is processing the relevant application to carry out an additional assessment of the building’s technical condition.
Under the school rehabilitation project implemented by the former Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency LEPL, out of the total contract value of GEL 2,261,583.96 only GEL 148,894.10 has been paid to the contractor, Dika 2010,. The amount paid was allocated for the dismantling of the building’s internal and external finishing elements.
