Urban Infrastructure Rehabilitation Underway in Mtskheta

The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Infrastructure is implementing a project to rehabilitate urban infrastructure in the city of Mtskheta.

The project is being implemented under the Cities and Resorts Development Programme and includes both the preparation of design documentation and the relevant construction and rehabilitation works.

The project focuses on preserving and developing Mtskheta’s historic and cultural environment. Particular attention is being paid to protecting the city’s historic character and cultural heritage, preserving its archaeological assets and improving the urban environment.
The project provides for the design, reconstruction and rehabilitation of architectural, structural, landscape and urban infrastructure. The works also cover the construction and rehabilitation of pedestrian and vehicular roads, engineering utilities, street lighting, water supply, stormwater drainage and sewerage systems.

As part of the site improvement works, transport and pedestrian connections, parking areas, landscaping, small architectural elements and outdoor lighting will also be provided.

In addition, the Municipal Development Fund is working on the development of a multifunctional park near the Theatreon in Mtskheta, as well as the rehabilitation of the Theatreon itself. A new recreational space is planned along the right bank of the Aragvi River, featuring children’s, sports, leisure, cultural and educational zones, pedestrian and cycling paths, landscaped routes and the necessary supporting infrastructure.

A working meeting was held regarding ongoing and planned infrastructure projects in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region. The meeting was attended by the Municipal Development Fund Executive Director Giorgi Shonia and State Representative in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region Levan Zautashvili, together with representatives of the Fund and local authorities. The participants discussed the progress of the projects and the following stages of implementation in detail.

The works are being carried out in compliance with the special regulations established for the protection of Mtskheta’s cultural heritage, Georgian legislation and relevant international standards.
