Construction and Rehabilitation of Tourism and Urban Infrastructure Beginning in Bolnisi

The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Infrastructure has announced a tender for the construction and rehabilitation of tourism and urban infrastructure in Bolnisi. The tender covers both design services and construction and rehabilitation works.

As part of the project, the historic area of the German settlement, cultural heritage sites, and the city’s central park will undergo rehabilitation.
The planned infrastructure projects were inspected on site by Giorgi Shonia, Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund, Ilia Jalaghaniya, State Representative in Kvemo Kartli, Davit Sherazadishvili, Delegate for Bolnisi, Dmanisi, Tetritskaro and Tsalka, together with representatives of the local authorities.

The project envisages rehabilitation of existing buildings and structures, streets and pedestrian infrastructure in the historic district, as well as improvement of engineering networks, outdoor lighting and public spaces.

The central park will feature sports, recreational and cultural zones, children’s areas, pedestrian and cycling paths, the April 9 Memorial will be rehabilitated as well.

As part of the development of the park and historic area, modern outdoor lighting, information signage, water features, fountains, irrigation and safety systems will be installed. The project also provides for the rehabilitation of water supply, sewerage, drainage and electricity networks.
Particular attention will be given to the development of cultural tourism. Archaeological sites, examples of medieval Georgian architecture and the historic German settlement are planned to be integrated into a unified tourist route, further enhancing Bolnisi’s appeal as a destination for both local and international visitors.

The project also envisages development of wine tourism. The functional restoration of historic German wine cellars and their integration with Bolnisi’s centuries-old winemaking traditions will contribute to diversifying the regional tourism, while offering and expanding its economic opportunities.

Following the large-scale rehabilitation, Bolnisi will gain new public and recreational spaces, its tourism potential will be enhanced, and the city’s unique historical and cultural identity will be further showcased.
