Ministry of Infrastructure Reviews Architectural Concepts for Projects to be Implemented in Batumi, Chiatura, Akhmeta, Kvareli Municipalities and Tbilisi City

The Ministry of Infrastructure hosted a meeting of the Competition Commission for the selection of architectural concepts.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze, Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund (MDF) Giorgi Shonia, Members of Parliament: Maya Bitadze, Irakli Kadagishvili, Davit Matikashvili, Viktor Sanikidze; State Representatives to Imereti and Kakheti Regions, representatives of the Ministries of Sports and Culture; representatives of Batumi, Chiatura, Kvareli and Akhmeta Municipalities; the Metropolitan of Alaverdi, the Reverend Davit (Makharadze), as well as architects and art historians.

The Commission Members reviewed three concepts for the upgrade of historic boulevard of Batumi. The pedestrian zone and bike lanes, green spaces, and public infrastructure of the boulevard are to undergo the full rehabilitation.

Special attention will be given to the design of a pedestrian bridge, connecting Batumi and Gonio across Tchorokhi River, which will allow for the use of existing spaces year-round, and will contribute to the development of tourism.
The Commission also discussed two projects to reconstruct the existing sports infrastructure and the dilapidated stadium in Chiatura in accordance with UEFA Category III standards.

In Chiatura, the stadium, designed for at least 6000 spectators, is to be equipped with renovated stands, a media center, locker rooms, medical and physical therapy rooms, as well as commercial and administrative areas.

A swimming pool and basketball court is also to undergo the full rehabilitation.
A design proposal, required for construction of a new building for Tbilisi Public School №42 was also submitted to the Competition Commission.
Within that project, a new school for 800 students is to be built to replace the demolished building, whilst maintaining the existing urban planning parameters, although architectural solutions shall fully comply with modern educational, technical, and safety standards.
The Commission Members discussed three proposals for developing an educational and tourist area and parking infrastructure near Alaverdi Monastery Complex.

Given the importance of Alaverdi Monastery, there is to be created an environment that is to include informational, educational, and recreational spaces. Moreover, visitor flow management shall become easier, more organized, and safer.
There are to be arranged also a multifunctional parking lot, designed for both passenger cars and tour buses that will include charging stations for electric vehicles.

In addition, a concept for the rehabilitation of Kote Marjanishvili Public Theater in Kvareli was presented to the Commission.

The goal of the project is to preserve the architectural and artistic value of the building that was built in the 1960-1970s, fully restore it, improve it functionality, and transform it into a modern, multifunctional cultural center.
The Competition Commission will announce the winning architectural companies within several days to come.
