REHABILITATION OF ILIA CHAVCHAVADZE PUBLIC LIBRARY IN KUTAISI CONTINUES

The Municipal Development Fund (MDF) of the Ministry of Infrastructure has begun the rehabilitation and restoration of Ilia Chavchavadze Public Library, located in central district of Kutaisi.

Executive Director of MDF - Giorgi Shonia, and Kutaisi Mayor – Davit Eremeishvili, inspected the progress of work on site.

The historic library building was built in the second half of the 19th century, and is one of the oldest public buildings of Kutaisi City. The building holds significant architectural and cultural value – it is one of an outstanding examples of urban planning from that area.

The project provides for the structural reinforcing of the building, restoring of its architectural appearance, renovating of the interior spaces, and installing of engineering systems of modern standards. The project envisages the creation of multifunctional spaces where both educational and cultural events can be held.

The upgraded library will be fully adapted to the needs of those with special needs.

The project objective is to preserve the cultural heritage of the city and equip it with modern functions so as the historic Kutaisi Library to acquire a new life. Upon rehabilitation finalization, the library will once again become the main hub of knowledge, culture, and community gatherings for the residents of Kutaisi City.
