DESIGN COMPETITION ANNOUNCED FOR THE REHABILITATION OF BATUMI BOULEVARD

The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia has announced a design competition for the preparation of design documentation for the rehabilitation of Batumi Boulevard.

The project aims to revitalize the historic Batumi Boulevard—recognized as a cultural heritage monument—while creating a modern recreational space that meets contemporary standards. The planned rehabilitation includes the complete renewal of pedestrian promenades, cycling paths, landscaped green areas, and public infrastructure.

A key component of the project is the design of a new pedestrian bridge connecting Batumi and Gonio across the Chorokhi River. The bridge is expected to enhance year-round accessibility and functionality of the recreational areas while supporting tourism development.

The design scope will include the integrated planning of the Old and New Boulevard, as well as the recreational areas surrounding the Chorokhi River. It will also provide for the development of children's playgrounds, sports facilities, and an amphitheater; the rehabilitation of Ardagani Lake and the Dancing Fountains; the planning of a new visitor information center, public restrooms, and open-air shower facilities; the design of the Batumi–Gonio pedestrian bridge; the integration of modern lighting, safety, irrigation, and engineering systems; and measures to protect biodiversity through landscaping with native plant species.

The rehabilitation of Batumi Boulevard seeks to preserve the historic identity of one of the city's principal public and tourist destinations while upgrading it to modern standards. The project is expected to promote healthy lifestyles, encourage social interaction, and contribute to the development of the local economy.
