DESIGN COMPETITION ANNOUNCED FOR TOURIST AND PARKING INFRASTRUCTURE NEXT TO ALAVERDI MONASTERY

The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Infrastructure has announced a design competition for development of a tourist and parking infrastructure project in the vicinity of the Alaverdi Monastery Complex, a cultural heritage monument of national significance, located in Akhmeta Municipality.

The project aims to create a well-integrated environment that reflects the historical and cultural importance of Alaverdi Monastery by combining visitor information, educational, and recreational facilities. It also seeks to improve the management of visitor flows, ensuring greater accessibility, organization, and safety.

Under the project, the design is to include a visitor reception area, an information center, exhibition and educational spaces, recreational areas, sanitary facilities, pedestrian walkways, and designated viewing points.

The project also envisages construction of a multifunctional parking facility accommodating both passenger vehicles and tourist buses, equipped with electric vehicle charging stations.

In addition, the design will provide for the installation of lighting and security systems for the monastery and its surrounding area, as well as landscaping works that prioritize preservation of the site's natural environment.
The tourist and parking infrastructure surrounding Alaverdi Monastery will be fully accessible and adapted to the needs of persons with disabilities.
