SCHOOLS INFRASTRUCTURE BEING UPGRADED ACTIVELY

The Municipal Development Fund (MDF) of the Ministry of Infrastructure continues to actively address the delayed constructions and problematic projects of public schools.
Minister of Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze, Minister of Education, Science and Youth – Givi Mikanadze, Minister of Regional Development Kakhaber Guledani, and Director of the MDF Giorgi Shonia, briefed principals and parents of 72 schools on the current situation and the progress of works.

During the meeting, which took the form of a question-and-answer session, representatives of MDF informed stakeholders of the current status of each project, scheduled activities, and implementation timelines.

It was noted at the meeting that the state agencies are working intensively to resolve those challenges that have arisen in the process of managing school projects and to create a safe, modern and comprehensive environment for students.
It was noted that in number of cases, additional time was required to bring the projects into compliance with current standards, to revise them in light of expert opinions, and to implement the new bidding procedures.

At this stage, work totaling GEL 425 million is underway to complete 77 projects, transferred from the now-defunct Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency (ESIDA). Among these, construction is actively underway on 53 new schools, 14 schools are undergoing complete rehabilitation and 10 schools are in the design stage.

To accelerate these processes and to more effectively use the resources, a single procurement process has already been announced for design-build of 13 schools, identified as priorities by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, whereas procurement of construction works has been announced for one school.

In addition, a new design solution is being developed for 10 schools, which will be used in approximately 30 additional schools as a model for replication throughout 2026.

In parallel with the projects, delivered by ESIDA, the MDF of the Ministry of Infrastructure is carrying out the construction-rehabilitation of additional 53 schools and the design of 45 schools, with co-financing from the state and international partners.
