MUNICIPAL DEVELOPMENT FUND IS ACTIVELY PREPARING FOR THE RUGBY WORLD CUP FOR PLAYERS UNDER 20

„The Rugby World Cup is of high importance for our country, and the Municipal Development Fund (MDF) works a day in and day out to ensure that the country is ready to host properly the Rugby World Cup for players under 20“, said Giorgi Shonia, Executive Director of MDF.
Per him, preparation for the Rugby World Cup is proceeding according to the plan.
Work is actively underway at Avchala and Shevardeni stadiums, as well as at Aya Rugby Complex in Kutaisi. Currently, grass is being arranged at all three venues, and painting work too is being completed in Kutaisi.
The stands are being prepared, and supporting infrastructure is being adjusted on a stage-by-stage basis. Moreover, Giorgi Shonia declared that rugby technical centers are being developed in cooperation with the Georgian Rugby Union. A total of 18 centers are scheduled to be designed and built, of which work already undergoes at 12 sites, whereas the bidding process is underway for 6 others sites.
The project provides for the construction of modern standard fields, stands for 300 spectators, lighting systems, locker rooms, showers, and other supporting infrastructure. According to him, these sports projects will assist to engagement of young people and promote a healthy lifestyle across the regions. MDF works so as to ensure that the project covers as many regions as possible and expands nationwide. The upgraded infrastructure will enable international rugby events to be held in a safe and comfortable environment.
