CONSTRUCTION OF RUGBY STADIUMS AND TECHNICAL CENTERS IS UNDERWAY IN TBILISI AND ACROSS THE REGIONS

The Municipal Development Fund (MDF) of the Ministry of Infrastructure is actively continuing to develop rugby infrastructure throughout the country and get prepared for the Rugby World Cup for players under 20, scheduled to be held in June 2026.
The current work progress was inspected by Minister of Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze, Executive Director of MDF Giorgi Shonia, and representatives of local authorities.
As part of that projects in Tbilisi and various regions of the country, work has begun on both the rehabilitation of existing rugby facilities and stadiums, as well as on the construction of new stadiums of modern standards.
In the course of preparation for the World Cup, 3 rugby sports complexes, totally 5 fields – are under active phase of rehabilitation - in Tbilisi, at Avchala and Shevardeni stadiums, as well as at three stadiums of “AIA” Complex in Kutaisi.
The projects envisage the upgrade of administrative buildings, stands, locker rooms, restrooms, façades, and lighting systems, as well as improvements of the external and supporting infrastructure.
All five stadiums will be equipped with high-quality hybrid cover of international standards that will ensure the durability of the field and a high-quality playing environment even under intensive load.
Moreover, MDF is to design and build a total of 18 rugby training centers, on 12 sites of which the work is already being carried out. The projects provide for the arrangement of modern standard fields, stands, designed for 300 spectators, lighting systems, locker rooms, showers, and technical and medical facilities.
The program is implemented with financial support from the Government of Georgia (GOG), and the total investment exceeds GEL 100 million. The upgraded and new infrastructure will ensure that the international rugby competitions in Georgia will be held in a safe and comfortable environment for athletes, fans, and spectators as well.
