MINISTRY OF INFRASTRUCTURE REVIEWS COMPETITION CONCEPTS FOR BAGHDATI AND RUSTAVI PARKS

A meeting of the Competition Commission to review the architectural concepts for Baghdati and Rustavi Multifunctional Parks, was held at the Municipal Development Fund (MDF) of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia.

In attendance of the Competition Commission meeting were: Minister of Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze, Deputy Ministers – Ilia Begiashvili and Batu Gurjidze, Executive Director of MDF and Deputy Directors, State Representatives to Imereti and Kvemo Kartli – Levan Zalkaliani and Ilia Jalaghonia, Baghdati Municipality Mayor Nodar Giorgidze, Rustavi Municipality Mayor Nino Latsabidze, architects and art historians.

The Commission reviewed four concepts of Baghdati Park. The design envisages the creation of a modern recreational space near Khanistskali River that is to combine the recreation, sports, entertainment and tourism functions. The park will feature zones for children and sports areas, pedestrian paths and bike lanes, green spaces, pavilions, an information center, and an open-air stage. The corresponding engineering infrastructure is also to be developed there. The project will improve the urban environment of Baghdati, enhance its tourism attraction, and create a new public space for local residents as well as for tourists.

The Commission will make a final decision on the competition winner architectural concept for Baghdati Multifunctional Pak in the days to come.

The Competition Commission also reviewed two architectural concepts for the rehabilitation of a multifunctional recreational park in Rustavi City, covering an area of approximately 51 ha. The design provides for the upgrade of a monument of garden and park art and landscape architecture, the arrangement of modern infrastructure, and the creation of a space to be harmonized with the surrounding environment. The recreational, sports, and cultural areas are also to be developed, existing facilities to be rehabilitated, lake and coastal infrastructure to be improved, and the engineering and security systems to be arranged there.

The Commission discussed the submitted concepts and agreed to review the issue of reannouncement of the competition with the specified Terms of Reference (TOR) so as more comprehensive and competitive architectural solutions to be made, since the submitted proposals only partially meet the scale and functional requirements of the design. The Commission will make a final decision in the coming days.
