RUGBY TECHNICAL CENTERS PROJECTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY UNDER ACTIVE PHASE OF IMPLEMENTATION

The Municipal Development Fund (MDF) of the Ministry of Infrastructure works actively on the design-build of 18 rugby technical centers. Currently, work is being carried out at 12 sites. There are to be arranged the sports infrastructure of modern standards within that projects. Moreover, bidding documentation is being prepared for more six cities, and biddings are to be announced soon.
“It is important that MDF actively cooperates with the Georgian Rugby Union and Municipalities so as these projects to be continued in the future and cover as many cities as possible,” Executive Director of MDF Giorgi Shonia said.
According to him, the country is preparing for the Rugby World Cup for players under 20 by carrying out a large-scale infrastructural upgrade. Work is actively underway at Avchala and Shevardeni stadiums in Tbilisi, as well as at three stadiums of “AIA” Rugby Complex in Kutaisi. The stadiums will be equipped with high-quality hybrid cover that fully complies with international standards and ensures the durability of the fields and high-quality playing conditions even under intense load.
As Giorgi Shonia noted, the implementation of sports projects, along with engaging youth in sports acitivites, will help promote a healthy lifestyle in the regions.
