In Poti 280 IDP Households were Presented with New Apartment Houses

In Poti Municipality 280 IDP households were presented with keys of apartments. Today, the Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia - Mr. Sozar Subari, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia - Mr. Davit Shavliashvili and his First Deputy - Mr. Giorgi Amashukeli, Governor of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti – Mr. Levan Shonia,    the  Acting Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia - Mr. Ilia Darchiashvili, Majority Deputy of Poti – Ms. Eka Beselia and the elected Mayor of Poti City – Mr. Irakli Kakulia  have opened seven newly constructed buildings in Poti and presented keys of apartments to the IDP households.   

The event was also attended by UNHCR representative – Mr. Simone Wolken.

The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia has constructed 7 new apartment buildings for the IDP-s in Poti Municipality, the project was  funded by the EU. GEL 9 180101.99 was allocated by the EU for construction of seven five-storey buildings.

Construction works contracted by the MDF were carried out in full adherence to current standards. There are 40 apartments in each building, 10 of them are one-roomed, 30 – two-room, the building and outdoor infrastructure is fully adapted for disabled people. Finally, 20 of 280 apartments will be allocated to disabled persons. The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia distributed apartments by lot.

During civil works, which were in progress within a 2-year period, there were some 350 people employed for construction works, 60% of them were locals.

The buildings are fully equipped with engineering services, gas, water, power supply networks, sewerage system.   The kitchens have water heating devices; there are KARMA type gas heaters installed in the apartments as well. 

The project also envisaged improvement of the building adjacent area. There were outdoor lighting network, 2 squares for children, parking lots, ramps, asphalt-concrete paving, sidewalks, and drainage systems arranged in the yard.

Therefore, the new housing estate fully meets the standards and requirements of its inhabitants. The “ZIMO” LTD was the civil works contractor. The Municipal Development Fund is also implementing construction works for IDP housing in various municipalities of Georgia.   Creation of adequate living conditions for the IDP-s is one of the top priorities for the MDF.
