The SP is being implemented under the Second Regional and Municipal Development Project (RMIDPS) supported by the World Bank. The SP includes restoration, reconstruction and rehabilitation of the existing sports complex building and the road in village Matani.

On October 20, 2016 at 14:00, a public consultation meeting on the Strategic Environmental, Social and Cultural Heritage Assessment (SECHSA) of the Regional Development and Tourism Development Strategies of Samtskhe-Javakheti and Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Environmental Review and Social accountability of the subproject “Arrangement of Tourism Infrastructure at Sapara Monastery” will be held in the building of Akhaltsikhe Municipality Administration (Shalva Akhaltsikheli st #2, town Akhaltsikhe ).

THE STRATEGIC ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE ASSESSMENT OF THE REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND TOURISM DEVELOPMENT STARTEGIES OF SAMTSKHE-JAVAKHETI AND MTSKETA-MTIANETI

The Strategic Environmental, Social and Cultural Heritage Assessment (SECHSA) of the regional development and tourism development strategies of Samtskhe-Javakheti and Mtskheta-Mtianeti was carried for the purposes of the World Bank-financed Third Regional Development Project (RDP III). The objective of RDP III is to improve infrastructure services and institutional capacity to support the development of a tourism-based economy of the Samtskhe-Javakheti and Mtskheta-Mtianeti regions. The implementation of the RDP III is expected to improve access, quality and reliability of public infrastructure; increase the volume of private sector investment in the region; and increase points of sales (tourism-related enterprises) in renovated culture heritage sites and cities. With these interventions the RDP III will contribute to the implementation of the Regional Development Strategies (RDSs) and Regional Tourism Development Strategies (RTDSs) of Samtskhe-Javakheti and Mtskheta-Mtianeti regions. The SECHSA aimed to analyze strengths and weaknesses of these strategies and identify risks associated with their implementation in order to allow well-informed decision-making on the relevance of supporting RDSs and RTDSs, and fine tuning the design of RDP III with the Government’s policy objectives in the target regions.

Rehabilitation of Gergeti village road and arrangement of foot trail to Gergeti Trinity Church

Under the presented sub-project it is planned to rehabilitate the amotor road in the village Gergeti and access foot trail to Gergeti Sameba (Trinity Church) in Kazbegi Municipality.
The section of motor road starts from the left bank of existing motor bridge on the river Terek of the small town Stapantsminda and passes through village Gergeti.
Under the SP, it is planned to arrange steps on pedestrian access pathway to Gergeti Sameba church with limited intervention only to improve pedestrian pathway and fixing wooden bench for the rest of visitors. Separate sections of the footpath will be profiled and footpath trail marks and interpretation panel will be installed.

Sustainable Urban Transport Investment Program SUTIP 2 (ADB Loan 2879-GEO, 2880--GEO) aims at development of the efficient, reliable and affordable urban infrastructure and service improvement in Georgia.

This Environmental Monitoring Report was prepared as Environmental Audit Report to comply with the 2009 ADB’s SPS and Georgian legislation, including Safeguards Requirements and aims to identify past and present concerns from the construction activities of the “Modernization of Tbilisi-Rustavi Section of the Tbilisi-Red Bridge (Azerbaijani Border) Road (Sections 1 and 3)” Project that related to impacts on environment.
