Construction Works for Rustavi-Tbilisi Highway are Ongoing in Continuous Mode

December 1, 2014

Construction works for the Ponichala section of Rustavi-Tbilisi highway are ongoing uninterruptedly and ahead of schedule. Today, 10 IDP-s residing in Ponichala area were making a protest against lack of village access secondary road under the Tbilisi-Rustavi highway project. It is notable that the design for highway construction was developed in 2012. Current management of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia has taken into consideration the IDP request for secondary roads and applied to the donor organization for problem solution.   Respective decision is made to this effect and today Deputy Executive Directors of the MDF notified the rally crowd of the above-mentioned fact while meeting with them.

According to the 10 locals, due to the ongoing civil works the canal fills up with water and in rainy weather houses get inundated, while the specialists affirm that inundation of residential buildings results from heavy rains and is not related to road construction works. The rally set out with an unpleasant incident. A confrontation occurred between the employees of civil works contractor and 10 local residents, though the incident was shortly settled. Following notification of the locals by the MDF representatives of the actual state and decision made, the rally was completed in a peaceful manner. At the moment machinery is mobilized and secondary road improvement works are initiated in the above-mentioned area.
