Successful finalization of one water infrastructure project And the launch of the second project in Oni municipality

 In Oni municipality one project of water infrastructure was successfully finalized and second project will be launched.  As a result of the first project implementation, population of town Oni is already supplied with high quality drinking water. The project executed by MDF has solved problem which Oni population was concerned about for years. Currently MDF and United Water Company of Georgia by European Investment Bank funding is launching second stage of water infrastructural development. 

 Within the framework of the second stage amortized pipeline replacement is envisaged, which mainly causes water loss.  As a result of the rehabilitation, existing 24 hour water supply will be maintained and become more stable. Cost of the project is GEL 618 thousand.  
 As for construction of WTP it already has resulted  in filtered and high quality drinking water provision, regarding commissioning of this object MDF Executive Director Girogi  Amashukeli, Racha-Lechkhumi-kvemo Svaneti  State Representative Parmen Margvelidze and USAID Mission Director Stephan Haikin visited Oni.  
 According to statement of Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia besides head works construction in Oni, several infrastructural projects have also been implemented. „Several months ago Prime Minister of Georgia visited Oni and he promised population to ensure high quality water supply. This promise has been full filled already, mentioned project is implemented by US government funding, within the framework of the project chlorination plant has been constructed, head works have been rehabilitated and as a result population will be provided with high quality 24 hour drinking water. MDF has also implemented several infrastructural projects in town Oni, including streets rehabilitation; it is significant that in Racha-Lachkhumi 4 outpatient clinics are under construction. It is most important for government of Georgia to arrange infrastructure in all part of Georgia and to provide appropriate living conditions for population”.   
MDF with USAID funding has rehabilitated head works in Oni. Total cost of the project is GEL 927,073.65. Works commencement date was 15 August 2013; 70-80 workmen were employed most of them locals. Project has rehabilitated not only head works, but also the access road to the head works.  
 Water supply system of town Oni was rehabilitated; as an outcome of the rehabilitation, population will receive high quality drinking water. In Oni municipality before head work rehabilitation water was not reserved, filtered, chlorinated. As a result of rehabilitation drinking water will be filtered, chlorinated and population will be supplied with high quality drinking water. Beside this, within the framework of the project “ Kvedruli” water  intake structure was rehabilitated, watch box  and WWTP  equipped with all required utility (manhole, pressure regulator, water meter well, vertical settler, express filter and etc.) were constructed. Along with head works territory arrangement 1000 m3 reservoir, chlorination plant pumping station and pressured pipeline was constructed. As a result problem concerning Oni population during many years will be solved.
