At the presentation of the 6 months’ report, the Minister of Regional Development talked about the results of the two quarters’ work of the Municipal Development Fund

Today, the minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Elguja Khokrishvili presented the results of the 6 months’ work of the Ministry and its subordinate organizations to media and society. At the presentation of the report, the Minister also drew attention to the results of the two quarters’ work of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia. According to the Minister, during the mentioned period, the Fund implemented and launched very important projects. The fund now has 160 current projects. During the reporting period, implementation of additional 105 projects was planned. 20 projects had already been completed in the first quarter.

 

According to the Minister, the Fund implemented rehabilitation of Saltvisi-Tirifoni irrigation system. The cost of the project is 14,068,557 GEL. As a result of rehabilitation of Saltvisi-Tirifoni irrigation system, farming lands in 39 villages will be irrigated. The problem that inhabitants of villages along the dividing line have been experiencing after the war in 2008 has been solved just as a result of implementation of the project.

 

In addition, according to Khokrishvili, as a result of the work implemented in the first and the second quarters of 2014, the Fund has issued a tender for construction of “University” metro station. As a result of the project implementation, the metro station of modern standards will provide services to residents of the Capital, and in 2016, the 23rd station will be added to the existing 22 metro stations.

 

According to the Minister, the Fund is implementing important project, such as construction of 15 residential buildings for internally displaced persons in Poti and Zugdidi. After the buildings are constructed, 536 internally displaced families will receive residential dwelling of modern standards.

 

During the same period, the Municipal Development Fund issued a tender for designing of 25 kilometer Roshka-Arkhoti road. As a result of the mentioned project, Pirikita (northern) and Piraketa (southern) Khevsureti will get connected. Previously, there has been no road in Arkhoti, and the village got almost completely deserted. Though, after the road is constructed, 34 households are planning to go back to the village.

 

According to the Minister’s information, during the same period, the Fund launched the project of installation of 82 ambulance stations; by this time, 40 ambulance stations have already been installed, and the rest will be installed by the end of the current year. Besides, there will be constructed an asylum for the homeless in Tbilisi, designing of which the Fund will complete in the near future, and will issue a tender.

 

During the reporting period, the Municipal Development Fund launched construction works of Tbilisi-Rustavi highway. As a result of project implementation, it will take 15 minutes to get from Tbilisi to Rustavi, and travel will become safe and comfortable for people. The cost of the project is 88,761,128,95 GEL.

 

According to the report, it becomes clear that during the same period, construction of coastal protection facility in Anaklia is being implemented, the cost of which is 15,800,759,49 GEL. Also, the design works of Phase II of coastal protection in Anaklia have started. The procurement procedures regarding construction works of coastal protection in Batumi are also being carried out.
