In Ozurgeti water supply problem will be solved for 30 thousand citizens

Prime Minister State Representative in Guria region Mr. Giorgi Chkhaidze, MDF Deputy Executive Director Mr. Tornike Torade, United Water Company Executive Director Mr. Archil Tsabutashvili and Deputy Executive Director Mr. Girogi Koberidze visited water supply rehabilitation works in Ozurgeti.  For 30 thousand Ozurgeti citizens water supply problem was solved by MDF. Water supply system has not been rehabilitated in Ozurgeti for many years, and MDF implemented rehabilitation works by EIB funding. Cost of the project is  2,653,428.70  GEL.  As a result of rehabilitation population will have high quality 14 hour water supply instead 8 hour.  

 

Object will be handed over for commissioning to United Water Company after rehabilitation competition. As a result Ozurgeti population will receive improved water quality. Water will be chlorinated and quality will be controlled in a constant mode by utilizing system “SKADA”. Until now Ozurgeti population was provided with unfiltered low quality water.

 

It is significant that MDF along with United Water Company of Georgia will implement water supply system rehabilitation second phase at the end of the year and as a result population will have 24 hour water supply. There will be electricity savings as 24 hour pumps operation will not be required. Except Ozurgeti water supply system will be rehabilitated in 28 towns of Georgia.    

 

During project implementation 60 workmen were hired on works. 

 

Within the scope of water supply system rehabilitation modern chlorination  plants were constructed, internal and external communication systems were totally replaced on pumping station territory, new transformer was installed  and fence was arranged on all three head works, “Skada “ system was installed that significantly eases water supply system  control and operation. 

Town was divided into four sectors and 36 regulation wells with valves and pressure regulators were arranged in addition. Rehabilitation works were implemented on 3 pumping stations of the town. 3 pumps were installed on #1 pumping station with capacity of 365 m3/hr. In # 2 pumping station 2 pumps with capacity of 160 m3/hr. and in # 3- pump with 120 m3/hr.  capacity.     

 

Except rehabilitation in Ozurgeti municipality by UWC financing shore protection works took place on water drainages and main waterline in river Bujuji bed. Total cost of the works is 493 000 GEL. After gabion walls arrangement and returning river Bujuji in old river-bed  water drains and main water line will be protected, that will be reflected on water quality and debit.
