The Building Rehabilitated for IDP-ies was Opened in Tskaltubo by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development and the MDF

On September 17, the former building of statistics was opened in Tskaltubo Municipality, which was transformed for the IDP-ies under the Municipal Infrastructure and IDP Housing Rehabilitation project.

 

The opening was attended by the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Georgia, Mr. Davit Narmania, the Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia,   Mr. Davit Darakhvelidze, Acting Mission Director of the USA International Development Agency  (USAID) Roy Plucknett,    and the Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia, Mr. Elguja Khokrishvili. 

Representatives of the local Municipality also participated in the opening of the building rehabilitated for the IDP-ies. 

Together with the opening, the Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia,   Mr. Davit Darakhvelidze presented keys of apartments to 17 IDP families. Overall, 40 IDP –ies will live in the rehabilitated apartment house.

 

The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia has implemented a project of rehabilitation of the former statistics building in Tskaltubo Municipality, which was funded by the USAID.  Total cost of works amounts to GEL 558,235.19. The rehabilitation works under the abovementioned project were initiated in May of 2012 and were completed in September of the current year.  17 buildings were rehabilitated under the project. Out of it, there are 8 one-roomed flats with the total area of 28.66 m2 and 9 two-room flats with the total area of 43.00 m2. One of the apartments is for disabled; its area is 50.13 m2.

 

During project implementation 30 people got employed, 14 of them were IDP-ies.

 

There are fully   equipped individual bathrooms and toilets in all of the residential buildings.  Water heaters and KARMA-type gas heaters were installed in every kitchen.   There is a playground and a parking lot in the yard.  An outdoor lighting network and decorative luminaires were installed as well.

 

The Municipal Development of Georgia is implementing a USAID backed rehabilitation project of 10 buildings for the IDP-ies countrywide in the different Regions of Georgia.  To this effect, the USAID has allocated GEL 11,982,688.23.  Rehabilitation of all of the 10 buildings is expected to be completed by the end of October.  As a result of project implementation,   335 apartments will be arranged in 10 buildings.

After completion of the Tskaltubo IDP building rehabilitation project, the Charity Humanitarian Center “Abkhazeti” came up with an initiative and presented drawings of IDP children to the Ministry for setting up the rehabilitated house interior.

 

Rehabilitation of ten buildings under the Municipal Infrastructure and IDP Housing Rehabilitation project is gradually reaching the end, after Tskaltubo project, all of the remaining buildings will be opened stepwise before the end of October.
