MDF will rehabilitate water supply system in 28 towns of Georgia by European Investment Bank and UN funding

Within the scope of Georgia-European Union investment conference Prime Minister of Georgia Mr. IrakliGaribashvili and President of European Commission JozeManuel Barroso signed agreement, basedon agreement EU will support Georgia in water quality improvement.

Today in hotel Radisson project agreement was signed byfollowing parties: European Investment Bank- Vice President VilhermMolterer, MDF - Executive Director George Somkhishvili and Georgian United Water Company – General Director George Tsabutashvili according to the contract 48 million euro will be utilized for water supply system rehabilitation in 28 towns from which 40 million euro is European Investment Bank’s loan and 8 million euro EU grant.

Within the scope of project implementation approximately 200 000 citizen of Georgia will have improved water supply system, existing water supply network will be renovated, new customers will be connected on system and high service quality will be established.

Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Mr. ElgujaKhokrishvili was also attending the conference. Within the scope of 8 million Euro NIFfinancial agreement between Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and EU was held. Above mentioned amount as well asloan of 40 million euro allocated by European Investment Bank  will be utilized for water supply system rehabilitation  in 28 towns of Georgia. 

Following towns of Georgia will have improved water supply system:  Senaki municipality, Khobi municipality, Ozurgeti municipality, Bagdati municipality, Terjola municipality, Dusheti municipality, Tsagveri municipality, Abasha municipality, Gurjaani municipality, Aspondza municipality, Bolnisi municipality Oni municipality, Zestaponi municipality, Tetritkaro municipality, Signagi municipality, Likani municipality, Chiatura municipality, Sagarejo municipality, Kvareli municipality, Tsalka municipality Akhmeta municipality, Khasuri municipality, Lagodekhi,Tkibuli, Telavi municipality in village Kurdgelauri.   

In August 2013 in Luxemburg financial agreement for water infrastructure rehabilitation with amount of 40 million euro was signed by Government of Georgia and European Investment Bank. MDF and United Water Company of Georgia areimplementation authorities.

Aim of the project is to improve living conditions for Georgian population. Project envisages water supply system rehabilitation works for 28 towns of Georgia. Project commencement date is 2014 and will be finalized in 2016.
