The “Road of the Century” Project was Launched in Barisakho

 Today presentation of the “road of the century” construction project was held in Barisakho.  Pirikita Khevsureti and  Piraketa Khevsureti will get connected through a 25 km road section. The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia by means of the  Municipal Development Fund of Georgia.  In the near future design works for the mentioned road section will commence, which will be followed by road construction works.   

 „This road is of utmost importance in strategic terms and it will also benefit to economic development of the Region, which in its turn will foster tourism potential of Khevsureti” -   stated Mr. Elguja Khokrishvili, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.  

Until now the Pirikita and Piraketa Khevsureti connecting road has never existed and there was only a path for horsemen here. To date only 4 families have been inhabiting Arkhoti.  After road project completion 33 more families are planning to return there.   

On December 17 of the last year, in Rustaveli theater the road construction project was blessed by the by Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia His Holiness Ilia II.

On the same day, Barisakho has hosted the Festival “Georgian Soul”. Various folk groups and poets took part in the mentioned festival.  An exhibition of photographic art of locals was displayed as well. 

 The event was attended by distinguished guests like Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia His Holiness Ilia II, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili,  Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia  Elguja Khokrishvili and other public persons.  

 As part of the same event, founder of the “Georgian Soul” Festival Zurab Chkhaidze awarded the Prime Minister with the “Georgian Soul” medal for initiating the “road of the century”   construction project and for attending to the needs of the mountainous regions of Georgia.    The same medal was also awarded to the  Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia  Elguja Khokrishvili.
