The Prime-Minister Visited Oni Water Supply Rehabilitation Project Site

Oni population will be supplied with high quality potable water. The problem pending in course of years, which was disturbing Oni population, was settled as result of the project implemented by the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia. Today the Prime-Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili was visiting rehabilitation works for Oni water supply system. He got updated on rehabilitation works with assistance the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Elguja Khokrishvili and Deputy Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia, Tornike Toradze.  “Oni population suffered from the lack of filtered water, until now they were being supplied with muddy water, non-existence of such primary living conditions in the XXI century is a real shame for us, but in the first place it is the shame of the previous government, which has been neglecting the needs of population, and now we have to set aright their shortcomings. This is an additional clear proof of the fact that no attention was paid to actual accomplishments and everything was done superficially. The project will be completed within a one-month period and the population will be supplied with filtered, high quality potable water.”- stated the Prime-Minister during his visit to the Oni Head-works.        

According to the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, except for head-works construction, several more infrastructural projects were completed in Oni.

 The project is backed by the Government of USA, and involves construction of the chlorination plant and rehabilitation of the head-works. After completion of project works, the town will have 24-hour water supply and the population will be supplied with high quality potable water. The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia is also implementing rehabilitation of 8 streets in Oni. Moreover, 4 dispensaries will be constructed in Racha-Lechkhumi.”  -, declared the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia
In Oni Municipality the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia is implementing rehabilitation works for the head-works of Oni water supply system, the project is funded by the USAID. Total cost of the project is GEL 927,073.65.  Works commenced on August 15, 2013 and will be completed before the end of the month. In course of works, there were some 70-80 persons employed at the project site, majority of them are locals.

Besides the head-works rehabilitation, the project also provided for construction of the head-work access road. 

Oni water supply system got rehabilitated, which resulted in provision of high quality potable water to the Town of Oni population. Before project implementation, in Oni Municipality water was not being reserved, filtered, chlorinated; after project implementation, potable water will get filtered, chlorinated, and high quality potable water will be supplied to the population.     

In addition to above-mentioned, under the same project “Kvedruli” water intake got rehabilitated and a watch box got installed. A water treatment plant was constructed, which is equipped with all kinds of requisite facilities (pressure regulator well, water meter well, vertical settler, rapid filter, etc.). A 1000 m3 reservoir, chlorinator, pump station and pressure pipeline were installed as well.  The head-work territory got improved overall.  

As a result of project implementation, Oni population has an acute problem solved, which remained unsettled for years. 

Other authorities that were visiting the head-works together with the Prime-Minister included: the Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia- Davit Darakhvelidze, Majority Deputy from Oni - Gia Japaridze and the Member of Parliament - Davit Saganelidze.
