Rehabilitation of Surami Water Supply System

The Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Mr. Shota Murghulia and the Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia Mr. Elguja Khokrishvili have been visiting the site of rehabilitation works for the Surami water supply system.  They were also accompanied by local authorities.

In Khashuri Municipality the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia is implementing   rehabilitation works for the Surami water supply system, the project is funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB). Total cost of the project amounts to GEL 5,362,918.54. The works commencement date for the present project was April 25, 2012, and the completion date is October 31, 2013.  The project is implemented by the JV of “INCI” LTD and “SERVISI” LTD. 100 persons are employed in course of works and 50% of employed are the representatives of local population.

The internal network of the Village Surami water supply system is already rehabilitated under the present project. The damaged pipes are completely replaced, which in tote amounts to 37,0-38,0 km. All the required communications are installed, like wells, adapters, etc. 2 units of 1000m3 reservoirs were installed together with the watch box and chlorinator. Currently the “SCADA” system installation works are ongoing, which will ensure faultless operation of the whole network.

Moreover, a 650.0 m drainage was arranged under the project, which will contribute to the increase of water discharge.

The present project serves the purpose of rehabilitation of the Surami water supply system, after full completion of works, the local population and visitors will benefit from the uninterrupted water supply, which has been a serious problem for decades.  It is notable that the water quality will significantly improve as well.
