May 11, 2021

The Municipal Development Fund (MDF) of Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia (MRDI) has built the new Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Telavi Town. The project has been implemented by Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) grant and with the support of the World Bank (WB) at the cost amounting to approximately GEL 16.9 million.

Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure - Irakli Karseladze, WB Regional Director for the South Caucasus - Sebastian Molineus, Swedish Ambassador to Georgia - Ulrik Tidestrom and Executive Director of MDF - Giorgi Shengelia were familiarized with the completed works on site.

Construction of the new WWTP of modern standards is of considerable importance from ecological standpoint. It needs to be noted as well that Telavi had lacked the WWTP to date, and it had been an unresolved issue for the local residents, since the fecal material was flowing down in an open manner and was merging then with Alazani River. The project execution will resolve the issue thoroughly.

Upon finalization of works, the new biological WWTP will be delivered under management of United Water Supply Company of Georgia (UWSCG).
