Beneficiaries will also join the process of building of the asylum for the homeless.

April 12, 2014

Today the scheduled meeting of the Interagency Commission for the Problems of the Homeless was held. At this meeting, the deputy director of the Municipal Development Fund, Tornike Toradze, presented the conceptual design of the temporary residence project for the homeless, prepared by the Fund.

The Government of Georgia, at the suggestion of the Interagency Commission, has already made a decision to place the asylum on the territory of Didi Lilo, occupying an area of 3300 square metres.

In order to arrange accommodation for the homeless, the so called sandwich panel type of construction will be used. There will be arranged catering facilities, medical stations, etc. Some greenery will be planted on the territory; external lighting and ramps will be installed, and other works will be performed to provide the residents of the asylum with basic housing conditions. The building is designed for 240 beneficiaries.

Upon the initial provision of necessary facilities on the site, the current living tents of the homeless will be temporarily moved to the territory of Didi Lilo. This process will presumably be finished by the end of May. It is also planned to engage any employable beneficiaries in the process of asylum building.

The mentioned works will be performed in the shortest possible time, so that the homeless don’t have to spend hot summer days in tents any more. Today, drafting the project was already assigned to the Municipal Development Fund, taking into account the notes expressed at the meeting. The mentioned project will be submitted for the Government’s approval by the Interagency Commission for the Problems of the Homeless, after which, the tender will be put out for construction works.
