Public Hearing of Initial Concept of Abastumani Urban Regeneration Project

The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia is working on development of design documentation for Abastumani Central Part Urban Regeneration Project backed by the World Bank.   

The design documentation is under preparation by the Italian Design Company KEIOS and Georgian Company  CMC Group. The above-mentioned companies held public hearing of initial concept of Abastumani urban regeneration project, this event was attended by Giorgi Shengelia, Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia, local authorities and all stakeholder parties.

Abastumani resort urban regeneration project provides for arrangement of parks, footpaths, street lighting, buildings of additional historical value and recreational spaces. The project also envisages putting in order of the damaged embankment of river Otskhe.  At this stage, design documentation is under preparation, which will be completed by the end of 2019, and civil works will start in quarter II of 2020.

The Municipal Development Fund is implementing a number of important projects in Abastumani, inter alia including rehabilitation of  18 historical buildings dating back to 19-th and 20-th centuries, restoration-rehabilitation of Astrophysical Observatory founded by Evgeni Kharadze, and the cableway constructed in 1982.  Abastumani land use masterplan is in the process of elaboration as well.
