Restoration-conservation work for Gelati Monastery in progress

The Municipal Development Fund (MDF) of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia (MRDI) carries out the restoration-conservation work for Gelati Monastery with the support of the World Bank (WB). 
The project has been divided into two stages. A per the works of the first stage there was considered restoration of the dome and stones, whereas the second stage envisages roofing of the sacrariums of the Virgin Mother Church and rehabilitation of the socle and a drainage system. 
Executive Director of MDF Giorgi Shengelia alongside the representatives of local authorities inspected the progress of works on site.
The conservation work for Gelati Monastery will be finalized at the end of the year. The project aims at contributing to maintenance of cultural heritage monuments and supporting development of tourist infrastructure in Georgia.
