Museum of Archeology under construction in Mtskheta

The Municipal Development Fund (MDF) is carrying out construction of Museum of Archeology  of new and modern standards on the basis of the old cinema building that is located in Mtskheta Town. The project undergoes implementation with financial support from the World Bank (WB) at the cost exceeding GEL 9 million. Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Mr. Grigol Katsia and Executive Director of MDF Mr. Giorgi Shengelia have visited the site to inspect the works ongoing.

 

As result of reconstruction of the old building there will be provided the exhibition and conference spaces at the building along with the museum depositories, cafeteria and other auxiliary units for either visitors or administration staff. Within the project there will be executed the conservation work for the archaeological monument “Mtskheta Porch” that had been integrated into the space of available building. The public space being in the vicinity of the Museum will be provided with amenities and equipped with outdoor lighting, parking lot and other infrastructural facilities.

The project has been developed as per methodological guidelines by the world heritage center of UNESCO and in full compliance with all modern standards applicable for Museum studies (Museography).
