The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia (MRDI) is carrying out rehabilitation of Roskha-Arkhoti motor road in Dusheti Municipality. There has been arranged the road of 28 km length within the project that enables the off-road vehicles to move over it.

Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund (MDF) Mr. Giorgi Shengelia visited the site. Upon inspecting the road being under construction, Executive Director of MDF conducted the working meeting with the construction company and reviewed the progress of the project in details.

The construction site starts at Roshka Village of Dusheti Municipality, then it passes over Arkhoti pass through Asa River gorge and ends up in Amgha Village. There had been only the pedestrian path on this section, whilst there has been arranged the soil motor road of 6 m width and of 28 km length within the project. There is scheduled the bank protection structures and bridge to be arranged there.

The pass is located at 3000 m altitude and winder is severe and of long term there that impedes the working process.

“We are implementing the project of high significance.  There had never been the road before and it will be the road to connect Roshka with Arkhoti. Several weeks ago Minister of Infrastructure visited the site of the road construction. Unfortunately, the road had not been in satisfactory condition by then as some sections had had to be cleaned off and finalized. We made promise to population that by the time of their  local festival (called Atengenoba) they would be able to move over the road by means of off-road vehicles and we kept that promise. There has been mobilized ten units of machinery at present stage and we do consider that great part of works will be accomplished, however as a result of  current monitoring  we have an impression that more efforts are needed in order the required works to be accomplished within due date”- Giorgi Shengelia has declared.

Due to absence of the road for years, population had almost abandoned Arkhoti Village, located at the border side and 4 households only reside there to date. Along with strategic significance the project has also great importance for economic development of the region. This road will assist to the local residents to be returned to this site and tourist potential of Khevsureti to be increased.
