Construction of Archeological Museum Launched in Mtskheta

From summer of 2019, an additional attraction will be added to touristic itinerary of town Mtskheta.  The old movie theater building will be adapted  to the modern, up-to-date archeological museum space. The project to the cost exceeding GEL 8,5 mln. backed by the World Bank is under implementation by the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia.  

The launching event was attended by Zurab Alavidze, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Mikheil Giorgadze, Minister of Culture and Sport of Georgia, Dimitri Khundadze, Member of Parliament from   Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region,  Nikoloz Antidze, General Director of CHA and local authorities.

After reconstruction of the old building, it will accommodate exhibition and conference spaces, museum depository, café and such other auxiliary visitors’ or administrative facilities.

Conservation works will be carried out for the archeological monument “Mtskhetis Karibche” (Mtskheta Gateway) integrated into the space of the design building. Museum adjoining public space will be improved and equipped with outdoor lighting, parking lot and other infrastructural elements.

The design was elaborated under methodological instructions of UNESCO World Heritage Center,  in full adherence with current standards of museology.  In 2019, Mtskheta Archeological Museum of CHA of Georgia will move to the new building.
