Construction of Grigol Peradze House-Museum Completed

September 10, 2017

Construction of the House-Museum of  Archimandrite and Martyr Grigol Peradze  is completed in Gurjaani Municipality Village Bakurtsikhe.  The refurbished house-museum was opened by Gagi Buadze, Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia, descendants of Saint Grigol Peradze and representatives of the Republic of Poland.   Members of Parliament, diplomats, local authorities and other official persons were also present at the opening event. The Polish delegation donated  Archimandrite and Martyr Grigol Peradze’s commemorative plaque to the House-Museum.

The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia has implemented the museum construction-rehabilitation works funded by the Government of Georgia.  Restoration of the remaining small fragments of the house was unfeasible and therefore under the resolution of the Government of Georgia, conservation works for the ruins were carried out together with construction of the modern up to standard museum building in the vicinity.

Foreign and local guests and researchers interested in the life of the Saint are frequently visiting Bakurtsikhe, and for this reason a discussion space, i.e. a meeting hall was arranged in the building, and the existing area underwent improvement works and fencing.   Project cost amounts to GEL 396 693,00. Construction works commenced in November, 2016.

The project aimed at maintaining the original appearance of the House-Museum and promotion of tourism in Kakheti Region.
