Solid Waste Management System improvement in Georgia keeps on proceeding with the support of EBRD

 On July 12th, 2016 Minister of Finance of Georgia Nodar Khaduri and Regional Director of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Caucasus, Moldova and Belorussia Bruno Balvanera signed the Contracts of Financing for “Solid Waste Management Project in Georgia”. Today Bruno Balvanera and Executive Director of Municipal Development Fund of Georgia Juansher Burchuladze have concluded the Project Agreement.

 

Aimed at project executing EBRD is to allocate 10 million EUR as a loan, whereas 2 million EUR will be allocated as a grant. Objective of the project is improvement of capabilities of solid waste management, considering acquiring of solid waste collecting trucks and containers and their delivery to 64 Municipalities.

 

“Solid Waste Management Project in Georgia” is to be developed into two basic directions: acquiring of solid waste collecting trucks and equipment and technical assistance rendering in order capabilities of solid waste management to be improved and public awareness with regard to sanitary treatment of solid wastes to be increased.

 

The project will assist to:

Establishment of modern system of solid household waste management in Regions;

Improvement of ecological, social and tourist environment as well;

Creation of safe environment for health of local population;

Enhancement of public awareness in this direction
