Infrastructural Projects Ongoing by Katskhi Monastery

The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia is implementing restoration-conservation of the cultural heritage monument, Katskhi monastery and arrangement of touristic infrastructure zones in the monastery adjacent area in Chiatura Municipality.   Today, Juansher Burchuladze, Executive Director of the  Municipal Development Fund of Georgia was visiting the project site.

Rehabilitation works, funded by the World Bank are being implemented under the Regional Development Project and project cost exceeds GEL 1,000,000.  

 

Katskhi monastery restoration-conservation works envisage handling of the fracture existing on the southern wall of exterior façade of the monastery,  and  complete removal of plaster   and following  treatment with lime mortar in the interior of the monastery. Moreover, the project provides for arrangement of the blind area and footpaths around the monastery, by using flat cut stone.  

 

Concurrently with the monument conservation works, a touristic center is under construction in front of the monastery; it will be fully equipped with  internal water supply, sewerage, power supply systems, as well as  the furniture required for efficient operation of this facility.  The project also envisages arrangement of the open terrace and parking lot, rehabilitation-finishing of the spring of water, rehabilitation of the church access road, installation of external water supply and sewerage systems and arrangement of the panoramic open balcony for tourists on the slope.  

 

Works have commenced in Spring of current year and will be completed by the end of 2016.   Following project completion, tourist infrastructure will get improved by the monastery to attract more visitors, which in turn will result in enhancement of social-economic status of the local population.
