The Inter-Agency Commission Discussed an Issue of Improving Conditions for the People Living in the Shelter for Homeless

January 6, 2014

A regular session of the inter-agency commission addressing homeless-related problems was held in the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.  The session was attended by the Deputy Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia Teimuraz Murgulia.

Members of Commission considered the topics of providing psychological and legal assistance for the homeless people living in the shelter and improving their living conditions.

To date there are some 210 persons staying overnight in the shelter. They are served with hot meals, and have a 24-hour medical aid, including all necessary medications. The shelter is regularly being cleaned; the tents and ancillary utilities are being disinfected.

The commission members also discussed an issue of homeless accommodation in a new place after passing of this winter.  To this effect the areas existing in Orkhevi and Ponichala  Settlements were recommended. The above-mentioned areas are easily accessible and do not require rehabilitation of access roads, besides, power supply, water supply and wastewater systems can be connected to the existing network available on-site, which is crucial for creation of normal living conditions for homeless. It was decided that the commission members will visit both areas and thereafter come up with a decision.
