Municipal Development Fund of Georgia is implementing construction of 17, 4 km Tbilisi Rustavi highway. After construction, travel time from Rustavi to Tbilisi will take 15 minutes and journey will become more safe and comfortable. Cost of the project is GEL 96 685 218.40. Today MDF executive director Juansher Burchuladze visited civil works who went into conversation with workers. Construction of the first and second sections of the highway was commenced on April 22, 2014. More than 300 workers are hired including locals.

Ground works on first section and construction of artificial structures on both direction have already been completed in particular culverts, asphalt concrete covering arrangement on both direction of the road is in progress.  3 km asphalt concrete covering has already been arranged on left direction and more than 3 km on right direction. Total 8 km asphalt concrete covering has to be arranged on both direction. Arrangement of two road bridges and one traffic center has been completed. Construction of two Road Bridge is in progress and will be finalized at the end of August.

Construction of artificial structures on the third section will be finalized in January 2015.  Concrete pavement has already been arranged on both direction of the road total 12 km. Construction of 4 bridges is already finalized. Three traffic centers and three pedestrian bridges is arranged. Also arrangement of road guard and sidewalks is in progress and installation of external lighting system will be finalized in autumn of current year. Currently access roads to traffic centers are under arrangement and will be finalized at the end of August of current year.

It has to be mentioned that original project (developed in 2011-2012) did not envisage arrangement of external lighting network and local importance roads, which presented significant defect of the project, in particular absence of internal roads was a big problem for local population living adjacent to the highway. MDF in coordination with ADB made decision and introduced amendment in the project which became the basis for mentioned works implementation. Contract price was increased and total amount composed GEL 96 685 218.40 instead of GEL 88 761 128, 95.According to the contract project finalization was planned in September 2015 but introduced amendments induced additional works implementation thus finalization date will be extended until the end of September of current year.
