Rehabilitation of Road from village Greli to Sapara Monastery (Akhaltsikhe Municipality) Environmental and Social Screening and environmental management Plan of the Subproject

Sub-project (SP) is being implemented within the WB supporting Regional Development project III (RDP III) and envisages Rehabilitation of motor Road from village Greli to Sapara Monastery in Akhaltsikhe Municipality

The road, rehabilitation of which is planned within the SP, starts from village Greli, runs along agricultural holdings (croplands), bushed and forested slopes, and ends at the entrance of the Sapara Monastery. Total length of the road is 7222 m. Currently, the major part of the road is extremely damaged.

After SP implementation road operational and maintenance costs will be reduced; Safety for traffic flow movement will be increased; emission of harmful gasses and fuel consumption will be reduced.  This will improve transportation conditions and contribute to increase interest of the tourists. The increased tourist flows will have positive social impact through touristic infrastructure development and improvement of locals’ employment opportunities, respectively their incomes will be increased.
