CaptureThe Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Mr. Davit Narmania and the Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia Mr. Elguja Khokrishvili briefed the media on the results of activities carried out by the MDF in the first half of the year 2013.

Opening ceremony of bank protection construction was held on July 27 in Zugdidi Municipality, village Anaklia. Mr. Davit Narmania, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Mr. Elguja Khokrishvili, Executive Director of Municipal Development Fund of Georgia, Ms. Kathie Julian, the representative of Permanent Mission of Asian Development Bank in Georgia, and representatives of Local Municipality attended the opening ceremony.

The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia has completed rehabilitation works for Baghdati water supply system funded by the European Reconstruction and Development Bank (EIB-ს) under the Regional Development Project. Total cost of the project amounts to GEL 670,088.79. The works were executed by the Georgian Company ,,BELD INVEST“ LTD. There were 80 people employed on site in course of project, 70% of them were representatives of the local population. The works were initiated in June, 2012 and were completed this year.

The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia has completed rehabilitation works for External lighting of Kvareli streets, underground utilities, planting/landscaping and rehabilitation of central streets under Regional Development Project with the World Bank financing. Locals were employed during all three projects. The lump sum for external lighting of Kvareli streets comprises 1781097.81GEL.

The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia has completed rehabilitation works of water supply system for internally displaced persons in the military settlement, Khobi under the Regional Development Project funded by the EU. Total cost of the project is GEL 399,764.55. 70 persons got employed for the rehabilitation works, 10% of them were locals. Works started in 2012 and were completed in 2013. The above-mentioned works were implemented by “Inzhmsheni 96”.

Inauguration of rehabilitated roads of Sagholasheni-Dvani and Gorijvari was held on July 2 in Kareli and Gori Municipalities under Municipal Infrastructure and IDP Housing Rehabilitation Project.

In Tsageri Municipality Village Lasuria an opening was held for one newly constructed and one rehabilitated bridges on the river Tskhenistskali. The opening was attended by Mr. Davit Narmania - the Minster of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Mr. Elguja Khokrishvili – Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia and the representatives of the local Municipality.

The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia is implementing rehabilitation works for Tiriponi and Saltvisi irrigation scheme in Shida Kartli Region, which is located in the conflict zone. The Project is funded by the USAID and envisages improvement of about 20 thousand hectares of irrigation system for 30 villages, which have suffered as result of the year 2008 war with Russia. Approximately hundred local inhabitants will be employed at the project site.

Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia Elguja Khokrishvili and his Deputy Giorgi Somkhishvili met with representatives of the Central Office of the ADB. At the meeting the parties discussed several important issues, which inter alia included announcement of bidding for the first and third sections of Tbilisi- Rustavi highway. Moreover, by request of the MDF management during the highway construction process unskilled labor will be hired from the local population and as a result of above-mentioned dozens of locals will get employment. Representatives of the ADB Central Office agreed to this proposal.

The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia has completed rehabilitation of Tskaltubo water supply system. The contractor firm “New Construction” has repaired a pump station. Old water pipes were replaced with a pressure pipeline. Polyethylene and steel pipes were placed in earth. 2 water pumping devices and electric equipment were installed.
