Giorgi Amashukeli Discussed Ongoing and Planned Infrastructural Projects with the World Bank Representatives
Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia, Giorgi Amashukeli met with the World Bank Sustainable Development Sector Leader for South Caucasus, Ahmed Eiwieda. At the meeting the parties discussed current and planned projects. The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia is implementing several important infrastructural projects backed by the World Bank, namely Kakheti and Imereti Regional Development Projects. In 2015, Regional Development Project III will be launched with additional financial support from the World Bank, which involves implementation of sizeable infrastructural projects in Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Samtskhe-Javakheti Regions. The main topic under consideration by Giorgi Amashukeli and Ahmed Eiweida also concerned realization of the Regional Development Project III.
Estimated cost of the Regional Development Project III amounts to USD 75 million, out of which 60 million is the share of the World Bank, while the remaining 15 million portion will be funded from the state budget. Physical works will commence in 2015 and will be completed in 2020. The project envisages rehabilitation of urban, public and tourist infrastructure, popularization of cultural heritage and historical monument sites and promotion of private sector in Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Samtskhe-Javakheti Regions. Implementation of the above-mentioned sub-projects will greatly favor employment of the local population and enhancement of their social and economic conditions and increase number of tourists in these Regions.
