Ministry of Infrastructure Launches New Projects in Kutaisi

Minister of Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze, together with the Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund Beka Urushadze, Kutaisi Mayor Davit Eremeishvili and art historians, visited several streets of the historical neighborhood of Kutaisi, the historical building of the library and the Student-Youth Park.

 

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss on-site, issues concerning rehabilitation of part of the historical buildings on Newport and its adjacent streets and preparation of the designing and architectural bidding. The state of the existing architectural and cultural heritage buildings was assessed and some main directions for further work were determined.

 

The mentioned district is home to many buildings of historical and cultural value. Among them, the rehabilitation and restoration project of the Ilia Chavchavadze Public Library, built in the second half of the 19th century, includes structural reinforcement of the building, restoration of its architectural aspect, renovation of internal spaces, and installation of engineering systems with observance of modern standards.

 

Rehabilitation works for the Kutaisi Student-Youth Park will also begin in the near future.

 

Restoration and renovation of historical buildings are of paramount importance for preserving and strengthening the urban identity, tourist potential, and cultural life of Kutaisi.
