The Ministry of Infrastructure hosted a meeting of the Architectural Competition Commission with the participation of Minister Revaz Sokhadze and Executive Director of Municipal Development Fund (MDF) Beka Urushadze, at which architectural concepts were reviewed.
In the course of that meeting, the Commission reviewed the submittals related to development of architectural concepts for football stadiums and parks in various regions, as part of competitions, announced by MDF.
In particular, the Commission assessed the compliance of the architectural proposals for Senaki & Sachkhere football stadiums, as well as for Kutaisi Central Park, with modern urban planning and architectural standards, functional use of space, and aesthetic solutions.
The architectural concept for the UEFA Category 2 stadium in Senaki was submitted by three applicants, of which the Commission considered two proposals. In case of Sachkhere, where the available stadium is to be reconstructed as per the UEFA Category 2, two proposals were subjected to reviewal.
Particular attention was paid to the concept for the development of Kutaisi Central Park, where a new recreational space is to be created across an area of up to 80 hectares. The project aims at creating a modern public space in the city that will become a center for leisure and entertainment and will contribute to the development of tourism and economic activity. It is scheduled also to construct a sports palace and a technology hub in this area; an Olympic swimming pool and football academy are located nearby, which will ensure this area to function as a youth and sports center.
Representatives of MDF of the Ministry of Infrastructure, architects, representatives of the Georgian Football Federation, and of relevant municipalities, took part in the evaluation of the competition proposals.
The Ministry of Infrastructure seeks to stimulate the professional involvement of architects through such competitions and to create high-quality, multifunctional public spaces in different regions of the country. Such competitions contribute to the involvement of the professional community and the creation of a competitive environment.
