Rehabilitation works are underway in Laghami District

The Minister of Infrastructure of Georgia Revaz Sokhadze, together with an Executive Director of Municipal Development Fund (MDF) Beka Urushadze and representatives of local authorities, inspected the current rehabilitation works in Laghami District of Mestia.
The project is being implemented within the framework of an Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan that includes the restoration of more than 20 historical buildings, including towers, and so called Machubas (old Svanetian houses).
The rehabilitation envisages restoration, reconstruction and preservation of traditional architectural buildings that will maintain the authenticity of Laghami District.
As per the project, traditional materials, such as so called “kavari” (timber planking) and slate will be used to roof the building. In case of need, reinforcing and retaining structure replacing works of the roof will be carried out.
The project aim is to improve the historical district of Mestia, maintain the cultural heritage and develop the potential in terms of tourism.
