The Municipal Development Fund is implementing a number of significant infrastructural projects in Kutaisi

 The Municipal Development Fund (MDFof the Ministry of Infrastructure is implementing a number of significant infrastructural projects in Kutaisi City. Amongst those projects are the ones that envisage rehabilitation of Kutaisi educational infrastructure, central streets and a park, total investment of which exceeds GEL 150 million.

 

The rehabilitation works are being actively carried out on Varlamishvili, St. Nino, Mari Brosse and Mikhail Lermontov Streets, within the framework of the “City and Resort Development Program”. On Varlamishvili and St. Nino Streets, arranging of the sewage and drainage systems, and laying of underground engineering utilities have already been completed, whereas the road and pedestrian pavement have been completely reconstructed, and a modern outdoor lighting system has been installed.

 

Rehabilitation of the Central Park of Kutaisi is at its final stage. The works for arranging of irrigation and drainage systems, installation of energy-efficient lighting poles, reconstruction of existing fountains, and paving of pedestrian paths have already been finalized. Only the existing infrastructure in the park has been renovated by applying of characteristic architectural elements, while preserving the existing layout. A media library was arranged in the park and new trees and plants were additionally planted there as per the dendrology design. A “Chamomile Square” was created in the central part of the park and a new recreational space “Rose Alley” was arranged in the lower part of it.

 

Executive Director of MDF Davit Tabidze, alongside with the representatives of the local authorities visited the progress of works on the implementation of infrastructural projects. He reported that many specialists and various institutions had been involved in the development of the project due to its complexity.

 

"As of to date, construction works are in active phase. There were some difficulties in terms of climatic conditions and natural disasters, which caused a slight delay in the course of construction of the park, however the gradual opening of the Central Park has already begun. A new boulevard, Rose Alley, has been constructed, which is a wonderful recreational zone. Additional work is underway so as to ensure that the paths and sidewalks on the outside of the park will visually and architecturally harmonize with the park. Also, taking into account the idea of the Office of the Mayor of the Municipality, a Niko Nikoladze monument is to be arranged in the park, which is to become one more additional attraction of this historical place," Davit Tabidze noted.

 

After the completion of the Central Park, Kutaisi will have a landscaped, multifunctional, fully renovated recreation place. The renovated infrastructure will be adapted both for people with disabilities and parents using strollers.
