Gelati Monastery Access Road and Retaining Wall Construction Works in Progress
The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia is carrying out works for construction of Gelati Monastery access road and retaining wall. The Project at the average cost of GEL 1.6 million is backed by the World Bank.
The MDF is carrying out Gelati Monastery restoration/reconstruction works in several stages. Under the first stage, the project provided for restoration of the dome and stones, roofing of Gelati Mother Virgin’s chapel, rehabilitation of the socle and drainage system. At the current stage, works are ongoing for construction of Gelati Monastery access road and retaining wall. The project was launched in September, 2019 and will be completed in Spring of current year.
Giorgi Shengelia, Executive Director of the MDF and Zviad Shalamberidze, Authorized Representative of the State in Imereti Region inspected the site of ongoing works.
Implementation of various infrastructural projects at Gelati Monastery aims at contributing to preservation of cultural heritage monuments and promotion of tourist infrastructure development in Georgia.
