Fuchtel: „Germany will continue to help Georgia in integration with the European Union in the Future“
„We welcome the fact that depending on the reform policy, Georgia has good chances to sign an association agreement in the summer" - Hans-Joachim Fuchtel - Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany noted on the meeting with the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Davit Narmania.
Mr. Elguja Khokrishvili, Executive Director at Municipal Development Fund attended the meeting too.
The meeting with Mr. Narania was held in the morning in Berlin. Mr. Fuchtel noted the German Federal Government attaches special importance, to take into account the principles of the European Charter on local self-government : " That's why we welcome the reforms initiated by the government of Georgia in the enhancing the legal state, controlling of the budget, economic competitiveness, non-central governance and other areas. Of course, we will continue to assist Georgia, within the frameworks of a long and successful cooperation, in the important issues, as integration with the EU is."
Both sides noted about jointly achieved advances in the field of establishment of capable self-governance and identified the role of infrastructure as a vital factor in the development of the country.
Namania’s wish is standardization of Georgian infrastructure to European standards in this field and assistance for searching potential partners for twinning in Germany." In direction of future implementation of Association Agreement with the European Union and Eastern Partnership, Georgia needs the functioning Municipal Development Fund, because municipal infrastructure and service has to be improved.
Underlining his 30 - year experience in municipal policy, Fuchtel stressed the necessity to mobilize the taxes in needful amount and demonstrated the commitment of Georgia in the issue of transition into result-based budgeting system.
He noted that Georgia had gone with his massive reforms on "fast track” as compared to many other countries and suggested that German politicians get acquainted with the progress on the spot. As was mentioned at the meeting, it is also important that the reforms are supported by the population.
Unequivocal commitment of Georgia to the EU creates good conditions for future cooperation.
In addition, Germany supports Georgia in implementation so-called "Beacon" project , which includes to create water and sewage systems in Batumi, at the coastal area of the Black Sea, this is tourist goal for all the region.
