March 28, 2019

There was held the first international Conference “Energy Efficient Construction” in Georgia, in attendance of which were Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Grigol Katsia, Executive Director of Municipal Development Fund of Georgia (MDF) Giorgi Shengelia, International Financial Organizations and representatives of construction-development companies. As per the study held by the Global Association for Buildings and Construction, 20% of CO2 emission throughout the world is for the construction sector, 60% of which is at the expense of power and heating systems. Construction consumes more energy compared with all the other sectors and it becomes obvious simultaneously with increasing number of population and urbanization respectively, resulting finally in power consumption growth. Hence, objective of this Conference is of high interest as improvement of energy efficiency will provide economic, social and environmental benefits too.

Rehabilitation of tens of public buildings from energy efficient standpoint throughout the country undergoes implementation by MDF - it signifies launching of renewable and alternative energy sources and administrative and educational buildings, envisaged under the Project. The referenced project is significant from the point of environmental and social effects and it will assist to improvement of energy efficient standards and growth of energy independency throughout Georgia.
