Rehabilitation of historical streets to commence in Dusheti
The Municipal Development Fund (MDF) of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia (MRDI) is to commence rehabilitation of historical streets in Dusheti.
The project considers rehabilitation of Dusheti central part, in particular Rustaveli, Erekle II, Chavchavadze, Kostava, St. Nino, Shamanauri streets. There is expected to be rehabilitated also the buildings and structures, being in the vicinity of the central park. At the referenced section there are compiled the distinguished samples of civil type buildings and structures that are granted the cultural heritage status and were built in the 19th century-at the beginning of the 20th century. As per the project, two houses of special historical values, i.e. Houses of Ilia Chavchavadze and of so called “Aprelov” that are located in a relatively far distance, are to be rehabilitated as well. There is scheduled to be rehabilitated/restored 40 houses in total, inter alia 24 ones with the granted status of cultural heritage. The project aims at reinstatement of the buildings with historical and architectural values and their representation. At Rustaveli, Erekele II, Chavchavadze, Kostava, St. Nino and Shamanauri Streets there are planned the road pavement, sidewalks and outdoor lighting to be arranged there.
Moreover, MDF has already completed rehabilitation of Dusheti Central Park. Within that project there were arranged the fountain, drainage and sewage systems, retaining wall was strengthened, and paths and small squares were arranged too. The works included outer lining provision for St. Nicholas Church, being in the Park. Implementation of infrastructural projects in Dusheti will contribute to development of tourist infrastructure being next to the rehabilitated district, because of which the employment opportunities for the locals will be increased.
