Shuamta to meet tourists with renovated infrastructure
The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia has finalized tourist infrastructure arranging works in the vicinity of Dzveli (Old) and Akhali (New) Shuamta under Regional Development Project with the World Bank funding. Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Zurab Alavidze, Metropolite of Alaverdi Monastery, Sovereign Davit Makharadze, Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia Galaktion Buadze and Kakheti Governor Irakli Kadagishvili conducted the site visit for Kakheti region, aimed at viewing accomplished works and opening of new tourist objects.
By cultural heritage monument there were arranged as follows: Information Center for visitors, Souvenirs Shop, Latrines, pedestrian paths and accessing roads. There was arranged also the common borehole in Old Shuamta and New Shuamta and water issue has been resolved. Construction-rehabilitation took 1 year only and its cost amounted to GEL 1 871 000.
Number of projects undergo implementation by Municipal Development Fund within the Regional Development Program. The program aims at contributing to maintenance of cultural heritage monuments and development of tourist infrastructure in Georgia what in its turn is to create favorable conditions for tourism development. Moreover, project implementation will assist to improvement of social conditions for local residents and increase number of tourists to New and Old Shuamta.
There were employed up to 40 local residents at works.
